![]() We can all note that she is healed when she touches him, but the details that the bible gives us after that I find to be remarkable. When I closely observed the story of this woman and her interaction with Jesus, I noticed something that I believe to be overlooked at times. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” –Acts 1:8 He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” –Mark 5:25-30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. “And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. We can run to him whenever we want! With that in mind, what more reason do we need to believe that he will answer us when we cry out to him! We don’t have to wait for Jesus to “come to town” like this woman did. When he ascended to the Father, he then sent his Holy Spirit to come and dwell in us, so that we would never have to be without him. One major difference that can be noted between this woman and us today is the fact that we actually have Jesus with us at all times, because his Spirit lives in us. “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” –John 19:30 “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.” –Luke 5:12-13 When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. He has already given us our healing through his sacrifice on the cross all we have to do is reach for it! I just have to reach out and touch him! It is not a matter of pleading with Jesus to heal us or to answer our prayers, because he doesn’t need the convincing. I really don’t have to plead with Jesus at all, but simply believe in and accept his finished work. But I realize that that is not how it works. I will confess that I have prayed half-heartedly for my healing (physical and emotional), simply pleading that Jesus would “hopefully” answer me. How many of us today believe in Jesus like this woman did? I find myself even neglecting to see that Jesus can and WILL heal me when I ask him. The Lord is good to all he has compassion on all he has made.” –Psalm 145:8-9 “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. ![]() No one comes to the Father except through me.” –John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. ![]() She had simply believed in his goodness toward her. In the midst of a large crowd, she somehow was able to make her way to Jesus because she was determined to receive her healing. And that’s it! She was so convinced in her faith that it didn’t take much to get her going when she heard Jesus was nearby. ![]() She believed that if she could simply touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be healed. One of the most famous stories is of a woman who had been subject to bleeding for 12 years. They simply felt in their heart that if they believed in him to heal them, then he would. People would follow Jesus wherever he went. They believed him when he said, “I am the way and the truth and the life”. It was simply because they believed in Jesus and his healing work. When you’re reading the bible, have you ever wondered why so many people got healed every day? It wasn’t because of their good works or their ability to pray eloquently. ![]()
